One issue we always face is the hesitation of judges to commit to something without a hard date. Since the dates for 2010 and 2011 are not set, we are unable to ensure the judges that you have selected will even be available. Many judges have assignment secured years ahead of time and fall is a popular time to hold National Specialties.
Applications for 2009 National have been submitted. Deb Casey (National Show Committee Chair) has been working with the local coordinators to ensure all details are covered. If you want to volunteer to help with anything, please contact Deb at deb@txk9.com.
I will be relocating from Las Vegas to Richmond, Kentucky this spring and my physical mailing address and personal email will change. Please continue to use Secretary@acdca.org for email correspondence.
Thanks again for allowing me to serve the club.
Respectfully,
Tracy Johnson
NC REGIONAL DIRECTOR'S REPORT
By the time this issue hits mailboxes it will be spring and many of
us in the north central region will all be glad that winter is behind
us once again. While the ACDs seem to love playing in the snow and
ice, I am always glad when it's gone! Check your calendars and put
in for time off work, it won't be long 'till we are all packing for
Pennsylvania!
As I write this the supported entry at the Chicago International
shows is just a week away. Cheryl and John Kurpas have been working
overtime to present a Breed Seminar for the AKC Advanced Herding
Institute being held in conjunction with these shows. It takes a
special kind of (dog) crazy to travel to benched shows in Chicago in
late February but we look forward to seeing our ACD friends old and
new. By next issue I'll be able to report on the weekends events!
As always, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have issues you
need brought before the Board.
Best,
Kathy Buetow Branson

NW DIRECTOR'S REPORT
I love the spring issue of the Quarterly, spring is the time when we have
new growth, new lambs, and a renewed ambition to get out and train our dogs.
Cascade ACD Club has just finished our regional winter specialty. Plans are
well under way for our summer regional specialty and herding tirals.
Cascade has a new club website we invite you to go visit at
http://www.cascadeacdclub.com/index.html we also have a new web forum at
http://www.cacdcforum.com/index.php where club members can plan events in
one central location. Our forum is open to non club members as well if you
would like to keep up with friends in the Northwest we invite you to join.
Thank you to Michelle Pardee for setting up our forum and Jim Beckley our
new webmaster. All of the details to our many events will be posted on
these site, so please check them frequently.
We have a few brags from the Northwest.
Rosemary Hoffman reports that Roxy of the famous Roxy Log aka Hit N Heel
No Red Light earned her first leg towards a PT at the ACDCA specialty, and
right before the big snows hit she also earned a leg towards her JHD. Jim
and Rosemary also have a new addition who I'm sure we'll see performing in
the near future, Sky (Bryn Mawr's Purple Haze) joins the Hoffman/Hutchins
clan, doing his best to fill the huge hole that Dylan (Bryn Mawr's Jack of
Hearts) left in his untimely passing last October. I hear Sky likes to
scale baby gates, so agility must be in his future. Congratulations Jim and
Rosemary, nothing can replace a beloved friend but the joy of a new pup sure
helps ease the pain.
Linda Gallacher reports that Shadybrook's Fire Starter CD, RN, PT, NA, NAJ
aka Flint just finished his CDX in three straight trials with all 1st
placements! Wow that's no easy task Linda, congratulations.
Linda Bell reports that Hawk aka Thatl Du's Double Shot WD at our Nationals,
was WD at our regional too for a 5 point major. Hawk just has a few more
points to finish and I'm sure he'll finish quickly at the rate he's going.
Hawk's older brother Potter (Thatldu Hairy Potter) also did well at the Rose
City cluster finishing his CH with a 4 point major on Saturday with Hawk in
reserve.
One more Cascade member that I know of finished a dog at Rose city. That
was Patti Salladay and Marty (Catchpens Ain't Buy'N'It) were WD on Sunday to
to complete Marty's CH!
Congratulations to all.

SW DIRECTOR'S REPORT
I hope one and all had a great Valentine's Day.
Hopefully everyone has received the information re the two events the ACDCGLA Club is putting on. They are holding their first independent Specialty March 29,2008 at the Kern County Kennel Club. Thanks to many people for their assistance - Kim & Gigi Griffith for their help in getting the event off the ground and helping with AKC, Joyce Rowland for her mentorship and continued support, to Michelle Mottola, for accepting the responsibility of Show Secretary. The ACDCGLA Judge will be a wonderful lady from Canada, Mrs. Cheryl Myers. The club will also be putting on a Dinner for Exhibitors. The food will be available immediately following BIS, as the Specialty. The club always puts on a lavish feast. The club is also providing supported entries for both Sat. & Sun. Kern County Kennel Club show. Hope to see many of you there.
The second event is really eight events with the Clubs annual Cattle Classic. Each day there will be two all breed AKC Course A herding trials: one for Sheep and Ducks, the other with Cattle. Then two ACD only trials: one for Sheep and Ducks, the other trial for Cattle. So an ACD has several opportunities to qualify. The judges this year are: Bob Dias, Rochelle Stanford-Dias on Saturday, April 19; Rusty Jeffers, and Larry Painter on Sunday, April 20,2008. Also I'd like to clarify the Premium Opening date was Feb. 14, 2008, and closing date will be April 2, 2008. Thanks to Amy Berry for catching the error in the premium - I think the wrong day was written in the premium, but the right date.

SE DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Greetings ACDers,
The Southeast has had a hodge-podge of weather, with Florida being very, very lucky. God watches out for us old people:) Anyway, the Mid-Florida ACD Fanciers is at it again with an upcoming AKC Herding Trial. The exact date and time can be located on Mid-Florida's web-site, along with other upcoming events. So if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact any of the members listed, they will be happy to assist you. I would be remiss if I neglected to mention the Carolina ACD Club being busy as can be. Leigh Ann and the Carolina bunch is helping out the Bull Run Club as best they can with the National Specialty. Truth be known they are probably just making this a trial run for their chance to offer up to host a National Specialty of their own. We can only hope. The web-sites for the Mid-Florida Club and the Carolina Club can be found on the National Club site at www.acdca.org. By the time this message comes out it will be old news, but I would like to congratulate all the winners at Westminster and their owners, handlers, and breeders, you all made us proud as usual. Remember, if you have any questions that I can help you with or thoughts you would like presented to the Board, feel free to contact me and I will get back with you as soon as possible. Also, any news you think the club would be interested in, I would love to include it in my report, so send me any appropriate new news and I'll see that it is mentioned in my next upcoming report.

DELEGATE'S REPORT - MARCH 2008
Herding, Earthdog and Coursing Committee
1. Judge’s list on the website has been corrected though judges whose seminar requirements have lapsed may still be included on list.
2. A request was made to have performance sport judges listed in the Gazette and on the website as they are approved, as is currently done for the Rule sports. There are fourteen performance sports to consider in this request.
3. Herding Advisory Committee. The committee has dealt with 200 suggestions that have been distilled down to twelve possible revisions. Votes within the committee require approval of eight of the eleven committee members.
4. There is significant interest in the web based seminars for recertification for judges. Staff is looking into this.
5. Lure Coursing Advisory Committee has completed their report and it is with Staff now. A National Lure Coursing Champion will be run in Washington this year.
6. Drafting and Carting. The Staff recommended that this sport not be approved due to projected low number of entries and cost to the AKC to implement and maintain the program. The interested breeds have not given up and will continue to push for their sport as an AKC titling sport.
7. Discussion on the lack of notification of Regulations to the various sport’s judges. It was suggested that email notification could be made to direct the judges to the website for the changes.
8. The Border Collie Club has had some internal problems concerning who they will and will not allow to judge an event. The Committee chose to not take a position and to allow the Border Collie Club to resolve their issue internally.
Parent Clubs Committee
1. Drafting and Carting. Forty three breeds were polled with twenty seven responding. Twelve clubs have established programs with club titles. AKC Staff said their research indicated an annual loss of $250,000.00 if this sport was approved. The clubs acknowledged losses in their self run programs. AKC conclusion was that clubs may continue to offer their own events, as “special attractions” and offer their own titles. (This was continued discussion from the HEC Committee). Parent Clubs Committee asked the Staff to reconsider building an AKC titling program for the participating breeds.
2. Working Dog Sport. Four breeds, Doberman Pinschers, Rottweilers, Bouvier des Flanders and German Shepherd Dogs, are allowed to participate in the sport and they may each hold up to five events per year. Last year forty two individual dogs competed in four events.
3. The Parent Club Conference CD is available on the AKC website.
4. A Group Re-Alignment Committee has been formed to consider re-aligning the various groups.
5. The new PAL (previously ILP) is developing a program to enlist the help from Parent Club rescue programs to include PAL applications with adopted dogs.
6. The AKC Meet the Breeds program may become a traveling exhibit to be held in conjunction with large events around the country instead of just being held at the AKC/Eukanuba show.
7. The Basset Hound Club has once again formally requested mandatory use of the ramp in judging their breed. There was discussion on this as there are “table” breeds and “ground” breeds but not “ramp” breeds. Currently the ramp is used at the discretion of the judge and not at the discretion of the breed. The Basset may become the first breed to add a new category of “ramp”.
Caucus
1. Discussion among the AKC Board Candidates.
Forum
Overview of AKC Affiliate organizations:
1. Canine Support and Relief Fund. Funds may be available to replace Search and Rescue Dogs and Police service dogs.
2. Canine Health Foundation. The foundation has allocated 20 million dollars to 400 programs. CHIC, The Canine Health Information Center works under the CHF.
3. Museum of the Dog.
4. Political Action Committee. AKC clubs cannot contribute money from their treasuries but they may contribute to the support fund. The difference in funds dictates how and where funds can be donated.
5. Humane Fund. Grant making institution with all dog owners as the target audience.
Meeting
1. Vote on Board of Director, Class of 2010. Dr. Carmen Battaglia 174 votes, Dr. Fred Bock 160 votes. 168 needed to elect.
2. Vote on Chapter 3, Section 7 of the Rules Applying to Registration and Discipline, which would allow for a dog’s name to be changed under certain provisions without impacting the AKC Stud Book of event records. Passed.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Respectfully submitted,

JUNIORS COMMITTEE REPORT
The Juniors Committee has devoted the last few months to working up the guidelines for the ACDCA Junior Achievement Award Program and we are pleased to announce that our efforts have paid off. The guidelines were sent to the Vice President for review and she, along with the board, approved them after a few adjustments. The guidelines are a work in progress so we are prepared to make necessary adjustments, as the need arises, to keep things running smoothly and efficiently. Please read over the guidelines in the Junior’s Section of this issue.
We have Juniors from all across the country signed up already with many teams. This committee is excited to see all of the kids joining in and readying themselves and their dogs for competition. The Juniors are responsible for sending in all of their supporting documentation, per the guidelines, for any points to be tabulated, giving them the responsibility for their own record keeping. The first weekend of January saw Juniors across the country already showing to garner points towards the Awards Program.
Currently, we are putting together some more ideas on fundraisers for the Juniors, so keep watch, more news to come soon. Our past fundraisers have been a big hit, so stay tuned.
We also have a number of Juniors interested in trying herding, rally, and other events for the first time, and they are looking into getting help from our mentors and taking advantage of the generous offers for herding camps and lessons. If you know a Junior that wants to get some help in another venue, please have them contact us and we will get them together with someone who can assist them.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the Juniors and taken the time to offer some guidance or give them a pat on the back. These kids are getting out there and trying and we want them to have fun and keep on learning. We want to stress that good sportsmanship is very important and want the kids to handle the highs and lows with a winning attitude! Best of luck to all of our Juniors!
Respectfully submitted,
Theresa Buzzard-Couch
