MOTION 1 from Diana Cagney

I  move that the ACDCA implement a "Mentoring Program" to be housed under a newly formed standing committee to be known as the Mentoring Committee.  The primary goal of this committee/program would be to provide newcomers to the ACDCA, as well as novices already within the club, with easy access to knowledgeable, experienced Australian  Cattle Dog breeders and exhibitors.  Specifically, the Mentoring Program/Committee would match mentees and willing mentors for the purpose of providing guidance and advice from experienced owners in  the areas of General Care, the various performance venues (Agility,
Conformation, Herding, Obedience, Rally, etc.), and Breeding.  A secondary goal, facilitated through the mentoring activities and possibly through other activities yet to be envisioned, would be to serve the ACDCA's primary function of promoting and protecting the  breed through education and outreach efforts.  The newly formed committee would be initially requested to identify and research similar  programs in other breed clubs that might be adapted to the ACDCA and  formulate a working program.  The committee would be asked to  submit a draft program proposal to the Board for approval within 30 days of the  chair being named and the committee membership being formed.  It is  important that this program be in place prior to the 2006 National to enable firstime attendees the opportunity to take advantage of the program.

MOTION 3 from Diana Cagney

I move that the attached revision (see file upload) of the rules for the National Specialty Versatility Competition be approved by the board for use beginning with the 2006 National Specialty in Rochester MN.  Background: The Awards/Performance committee has been working very hard to refine and correct the rules for the National Specialty Versatility Competition. As someone who has competed in this event the past couple of years, I can tell you that this effort was much needed.  There has been much room for confusion, errors, and hard feelings in the previously used rules. Nothing intentional on anyone's part, I know, but there were just lots of issues with the way things were worded, how information was organized, the consistency of the information from one portion of the rules to another, and the logistics of the event. I think this is a great effort on the Awards/Performance Committee's part and applaud them wholeheartedly for this effort. There are a few substantive changes, like modifying the weightings of various events, improving the mechanisms that previously existed for including Rally and Veterans Obedience, and making it so that the Awards/Performance Committee would be required to designate a point-keeper ahead of time and notify the Board and Show Committee who that person is. It was also important to clarify things so that competitors didn't feel like they had to NOT enter events in order to compete in Versatility (which was the case last year). The goal here is to encourage entries (and, therefore, income) at the National Specialty, to award the dog who is truly most versatile, and to spell things out ahead of time to reduce problems at the Specialty. Otherwise, it's all pretty much the same except hopefully worded better. The Awards/Performance Committee would like for the Board to approve this revision of the Versatility Competition Rules so that they can be published to the members for the upcoming National Specialty.

MOTION 4 from Kathryn Hamilton

I move that the ACDCA, Inc. develop a breed brochure for the AKC Parent Club Flier Program, in accordance with AKC guidelines, to be mailed with all AKC registrations. There is a fee of $150.00 for set up, and $0.03 per each flier sent. Approximately 1800 dogs are registered annually for an estimated
cost of $54.00.
